The government of Shenzhen has said it plans to buy 1,000 green buses and 500 electric taxis over the course of 2013. Local administration officials estimate a continued rise in the electrification of buses and taxis, expecting the numbers of green buses and electric taxis to reach 8,000 and 15,000 by 2017.

At present, of the 16,000 large- and medium-sized buses and 15,000 taxis in Shenzhen, about 3,400 are new-energy vehicles, including 2,050 hybrid and electric buses, and more than 300 electric taxis.
