The World Alliance for Low Carbon Cities (WALCC) held a networking and marketing event in Helsinki on the 10th of April, 2013. Around 20 representatives from Cleantech companies and public organizations were in attendance at the event. Company presentations from Indmeas, BMH, DigiEcoCity, Nanol and CrisolteQ introduced those in attendance to the solutions and technologies they offer. The City of Helsinki also introduced its Östersundom development ideas and the technologies necessary to achieve their goals.

In addition to these presentations, Ari Kohonen from Tekla, Pia Salokoski from Tekes and Matti Hämäläinen from Aalto University participated in a panel discussion. The panelists raised such topics as the increasing demand for environmentally friendly technologies, support for pilot projects, cooperation between larger corporate entities and SMEs, business opportunities and challenges in the Chinese market.

The conclusions arising from the event regarded the demand for further networking events in the Cleantech industry. Preliminary interest in the WALCC’s Fourth Low-Carbon City Development Forum is already evident in Shenzhen in June and also in Malmö in September.

The WALCC will be in contact with participating organizations and discuss further possibilities for cooperation.
